Red Crowned Amazon

Also known as the Mexican red-headed parrot and the green-cheeked amazon, the red crowned amazon's natural habitat is northeastern Mexico. Species also live in urban areas of southern California, with feral flocks found in Florida, Texas, and Puerto Rico. Adults range from 11 to 13 inches with a wingspan of 15 to 16 inches. Social animals, their flocks can grow to more than 100 birds. The red crowned amazon is considered endangered, with its population decline due primarily to illegal trapping for the pet trade as well as habitat destruction.
