Mastering Skies, Water & Reflections

3-Day Workshop in Oil, Acrylic or Pastel
Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday, August 5-7

Sponsored by The Elk River Club

Islands of Lake Murray II

Master your landscape paintings of skies, water and reflections and join South Carolina artist Michael Story as he returns to the Elk River Club for this 3-day painting workshop. In this class, you will have the option of working in any of the three mediums offered, oil, acrylic or pastel.

The class begins with an I-Pad presentation showing Michael’s step-by-step painting techniques from start to finish. Establishing a strong composition comes first. Next, a charcoal value drawing is developed that will serve as a guide to establishing our shadow colors. After an underpainting wash is applied on top of our drawing we’ll begin our dark to light color layering process.

Complementary and analogous color schemes will be discussed in detail and applied to our paintings. Michael takes the mystery out of understanding how and when to use warm versus cool colors and how to lighten and darken all those colors on our palette. You will learn how to apply final layers of saturated color and avoid muddy mixtures, while capturing depth, drama and mood to your work.
